Z Gorres is rapidly becoming one of the country’s finest boxers. In his last battle, he got an 8th round TKO win against Eric Ortiz - successfully showing the world his rare power. After erroneously giving Gorres a mandatory count in the 1st round of what appeared to a clear slip, the crowd began to go wild and pelted the ring with coins and plastic bottles repeatedly. After settling down, Gorres caught Darchinyan with a clean left hook to the face that sent the cocky Australian down to the canvass in the second round. Unfortunately, the Filipino failed to put the pressure on and a headbutt in the sixth round wounded Gorres’ forehead.
After 12 rounds of boxing it seems obvious that Darchinyan won the battle for Z Gorres struggles a lot just to survive the 12-rounder fight. The irony with the decisions where when the Filipino Judge Jonathan Davis had it 114-112 in favor of Darchinyan, Montol Suriyachand saw it in favor of Gorres, 113-112, while Australian Cec Perkins declared it a draw, 113-113.
The split draw was the first in Darchinyan’s professional career. The former IBF flyweight champion, who lost his title to Filipino Nonito Donaire last year, owns a 29-1 record, including 23
